Join us for Local Legacy: Celebrating 50 Years of Lexington Ballet with Ben Sollee, Feb 21-22, 2025 at the Lexington Opera House!
This star-studded performance will feature all local Lexingtonian artists! We are so thrilled to welcome Ben Sollee to the Opera House with two world premieres. Firstly, experience the music you know and love of Ben’s in a new light- with a brand new dance work by Artistic Director Eric Trope to some of Ben’s greatest hits played live by Ben and his band. Secondly, Ben is composing a brand new work with members of the Lexington Philharmonic featuring poems by US Poet Laureate Ada Limon. The Philharmonic will also be playing music by Dvorak and Rhiannon Giddens.
Audiences will also enter the world of New York and Broadway with the world premiere piece First Sight, by native Lexingtonian Patrick Garr, recently seen in Broadway’s Hamilton, and Mean Girls. The evening will also include new choreography by Lexington Ballet dancers and faculty, Alex Orenstein, Jennifer Holoubek, and Alex Bellocq, Tyveze LittleJohn as well as Louisville Ballet Artistic Director Mikelle Bruniza.
This performance will also feature original costumes by Louisville's Frances Lewis, recently seen on Project Runway and Lexington native Beckett Fogg of Fashion House Area. Finally, we are so grateful to Wylie Caudill, the official artist of the 150th Kentucky Derby, known for his vibrant murals around Lexington, for making an original one-of-a-kind backdrop. This is an event that has been 50 years in the making! You don’t want to miss this!
